Faith In Action
Hands-on experiences that prepare you to serve and lead
The Social Work Program at Howard Payne University believes that true learning happens when faith meets action.
Through hands-on experiences, students deepen their understanding of poverty, policy, and the power of advocacy in real-world settings.
Each fall, students participate in the Mission Waco Poverty Simulation, a three-day immersive experience that challenges participants to better understand the realities of poverty and the systems that impact those living in it. The experience encourages empathy, reflection, and a stronger commitment to social justice and service.
In the spring, students take part in the Policy Visit to the Texas Capitol, where they meet with legislators, observe the policy-making process, and learn how social workers advocate for change at the state level.
This experience connects classroom learning to professional advocacy and leadership in the field.
